Corner Alliance Comes Together to Spread Holiday Cheer

Washington, D.C. – ‘Tis the season at Corner Alliance! Following Corner Alliance’s co-sponsorship of the annual Teardrops to Rainbows (T2R) Gala in November, CA once again teamed with the non-profit, spreading holiday cheer throughout December to families with young children battling cancer.

Every December, T2R hosts a holiday party open to the families in its support network where each child and their siblings get gifts from Santa Claus. In preparation, Corner Alliance helped with each aspect of getting the gifts from Santa’s workshop and into the hands of the children in attendance.

This year, Corner Alliance was one of three organizations that purchased all the gifts for the holiday party. One of Santa’s helpers was Corner Alliance employee Kris Pettie, who helped purchase many of the toys this year.

“For me, the holiday season is typically a time of joy and to realize that these kids  are facing the most difficult challenge of their lives, it was important to find some small way I could make their day a little bit better,” said Pettie. “As a big kid, I don’t get to shop for toys very often so I had a fun time trying to find games I thought the kids would enjoy with their families.”

Corner Alliance employees and their families then prepared the presents during a gift-wrapping event held at Fairfax Hospital on Dec. 12. The gifts were then loaded into Santa’s sleigh and delivered to the holiday party at the Fair Lakes Hyatt on Dec. 14.

This year’s party featured a Candy Land theme, complete with a display of oversized presents and gigantic Wonka Bars. The children also got to enjoy a Build-A-Bear workstation, balloon artist, and live music.

“When a family tells you how this was the thing they looked forward to, the thing that got them from treatment to treatment, you realize the importance of this event,” said Lois Lyons, Executive Director of T2R. “This is all possible because of the Teardrops family. We couldn’t survive without supporters like Corner Alliance. To me, Corner Alliance is heart—Ron and Alan’s company is such an invaluable friend of our organization.”

More than 70 families were on hand to receive the 200 gifts handed out by Santa this year. T2R’s next event will be a golf tournament in the summer of 2012. To learn more about T2R, visit Teardrops to Rainbows.
